Victoria Square

Victoria Square in Belfast opened on 6 March 2008 as Northern Ireland’s largest and one of its most expensive property developments, a £400 million, 800,000-square-foot commercial, residential and leisure complex that took around six years to complete.

Photographed by me (a real human) using a Fujifilm X-T50 camera, and given a sketch effect in post capture processing.

The site has a longer history: in the late 19th century it housed the Cantrell and Cochrane soft-drinks factory and Finlay’s Soap and Candle Works; later it was occupied by the 1960s Churchill House government offices and the modest Victoria Centre (opened 1988), which was demolished in the early 2000s to make way for the new scheme. A striking glass dome now crowns the development, and the restored 1870s Jaffe Fountain stands once more in its original location outside the centre.
