Meet twins Megan and Ellie, who toddled into our Dundonald Studio today for their 1st Birthday Photoshoot, along with Mummy and Daddy!

Saturday 9th July – and we had two great wee doggy friends in the studio for the Pet Portrait Awards on behalf of Dogs Trust, Bailey the Scottie and Holly the Lhasa Apso.
Bailey came first! She’s just two, and full of life and – jet black! So getting the Nikon Df camera to focus on her was a bit of a challenge! But we managed, and with some prompting from her humans, and a few special treats she was a real star.
Here she is…

Next came Holly. Holly is an eleven year old Maltese Cross, with sore knees – but she’s so happy and friendly! And what a poser!

Sometimes it’s a good practice to look back at image one has made over the years, – with a critical eye! Here’s a few I’ve been mulling over recently:-

This image of the Playhouse Theatre, Derry/Londonderry was part of a commercial commission. The brief was to show the effect of the lights on the wall opposite the Theatre.

This simple image of Slieve Bunion, in Co Down, part of the ‘Mountains of Mourne’ range has been one of my very best sellers! I’ve sold this image in framed prints, magnets, even mugs!

This image of Ballycopeland Windmill in Co. Down is a real quirk, as anyone who knows it would realise! It is of course, heavily photoshopped, to show the sun rising in the North! Just for a wee change.
And finally, for this selection, an image that’s just a little more personal…

This image of Janette’s parent’s old kitchen, after they’d moved out of the farmhouse, was part of an exhibition at the Curve Gallery, Belfast. I called it ‘Dereliction.’
The bookings have already started for the July round of the baby of the Month Competition, and first into the studio at Dundonald was the gorgeous Baby Ebony, whose charming wee smile was just so sweet! Here she is on a rug on the studio floor …

Here’s my favourite image from today’s studio work…

I’d just posted a message on a Facebook group, saying how thankful I am that I am a self-employed photographer, instead of being confined to a desk in an office all day, with targets and pressure. I’d said that I enjoyed the more relaxed lifestyle, and was looking forward to my baby shoots in the studio later that day. One or two commented on the concept of a ‘relaxed baby session’ and I assured them that I had it all worked out. THEN this happened…

Some babies just don’t do relaxed!
Baby Imogen came to the studio at Dundonald today with mummy and daddy for her ‘Baby of the Month’ session, in association with Emma’s Diary. What a wee charmer!

Driving along the Ballycowan Road at #Ballymena today when I met these friendly ponies in a field beside the road. One of them was obliging enough to allow me to make a photograph.
I decided to go for an exaggerated bokeh effect, so I selected a 80-210 zoom for the Nikon D610 camera, choose 100 ISO and f/2.8, with a shutter speed of 1/1000th sec. (It was a bright day). The vignetting effect was added in Photoshop.
Our new MuttMugs are a REAL HIT!
