Spring is all about new life, new colour, new sunshine coming to the world. So here’s some tips to help you have a relaxed spring photo session.
1) Location
We will find you a great spring location, with lovely buds, new blooms and bulbs arriving. We have a few special places, but if you have somewhere that you know – or is special to you – then please let us know.
2) Timing
Don’t leave it too late, there is a big difference between that perfect spring appearance and when things get a bit tired in summer. So, keep an eye on the weather and the plants around you and book early.
3) Clothing
We recommend you be dressed in layers, spring weather can be a bit hot then cold. Layers mean we can ring the changes very quickly and easily and you don’t get overheated or goosebumps.
4) Colours
Use the colors of spring, obviously green, but blues, pinks and yellows are fantastic in springtime. Go for a color theme throughout the whole group to help make you appear together. Denim jeans always work!
5) Accessories
Make your accessories work with your wardrobe. Again the colors listed above will work well. In general you want either big and chunky or small and discrete. Finely worked jewelry tends not to work too well in images. For women, hair accessories can be a really good, colorful choice.
6) Shoes
Bring a few changes just in case – the ground can be a little muddy at times in springtime. Trainers, loafers and flats are good. Boots can work too – but not furry winter boots.
Here are some quick tips for making sure your child or children are ready for your family Photoshoot.
1) Leave plenty of time for the journey. Make sure that the trip to the studio is not rushed or hassled. Do your wardrobe selections the evening before!
2) Nowadays it’s not just the teenagers who get huffy when you choose their clothes for them so make a deal! Let the child select their choice of clothes on the condition that they will also wear your choice too. Continue reading 9 Tips for Preparing Your Children for a Family Photoshoot.
Meet the lovely Ayah, who brought her mummy, Shakila to our Dundonald studio today for a special ‘Mummy & Me’ Photoshoot. They have lots of lovely photos to choose from, but here’s just one to whet the appetite!

We have photographed a lot of kids over the years and we like to think that we do it rather well. One of the things we’ve have learned is how to make kids feel chilled.
Every age is different and every youngster is different. Some will come bursting in looking forward to it all. Others might be a little more quiet and need some coaxing.

We will meet them at their level, chatting with them about what they like, what they have been doing and general getting them comfortable.
If it means playing about and acting the idiot we can do that. If it means taking everything a little slower and quieter then we can do that too.
For the first chunk of the experience we will typically be photographing you and the kids together. This aids them feel comfortable and understand the procedure. They still have their Mum or Dad for moral support.
Pretty soon they will be happy and chilled and up for the full photoshoot.
We know it’s working because so many youngsters remember us when they come back for their next shoot?

NO! Not a coffee shop. Bertie the Bear is one of our studio props and he’s really popular with kids. They love his soft fleecy hair and his cheeky grin, and he’s just the right size for a big cuddle from any of our toddlers. And of course he keeps me company when I’m working alone at the studio.

But what Bertie really likes is to be with lots of lovely people, so book a studio appointment for just £45, (presently that includes a complimentary framed Art Print in a 10×8 inch frame), and make Bertie’s day!
Children of a certain age can suddenly lose the power to grin without looking like some weird gargoyle off a church! (In fact some parents do too!) The tip to getting a genuine grin is to give them something they really giggle at.
Here are some things you can do:-
We like to keep things fun and simple with youngsters. We understand they trade moods from moment to moment. We will treat them with respect and generally mess around with them to help everyone get the final photograph.

…baby Zach got into the car with his mummy and daddy, and they drove all the way to Dundonald – where Zach fell asleep. When he woke up he was out of the car and in a photography studio, and guess who was standing next to him? Here’s a clue…

Zach was so excited and he smiled and waved his arms around for the nice photographer. And they all lived happily ever after!
The end.
