Slemish Mountain is in Co.Antrim, to the east of the town of Ballymena. Traditionally, it is said to be the first Irish home of St Patrick, who tended sheep as a slave boy on its slopes.Slemish (Slieve Mish) is around 1500 feet above the surrounding plain, and is visible for many miles around.
I lead a VERY exciting life. After a wet morning in the open air, doing some commercial photography, I got to stop for packed lunch at a favourite car-park! Oxford Island, just outside Lurgan, Co.Armagh is a nature reserve, perched on the southern shores of Lough Neagh, the largest fresh-water lake in the British Isles. Let’s face it – landscape photography is not for me! Successful landscapes seem to involve lots of early mornings, long arduous climbs to the top of mountains, hours of patient waiting for the sun to be at exactly the right point in the sky, or for the tide to turn… All much too energetic!
But I do find cityscapes to be intriguing, – I like the Belfast skyline when I’m passing through the city, and wandering the streets with a camera, making images of historical buildings, churches, dereliction, narrow entries and architecture can be really worthwhile and fulfilling.
To be honest, it’s not often that the average working photographer gets to work with a real, successful model. So you can imagine how thrilling it was when I discovered that the girl in front of my camera today had starred in commercials, had been in videos with popular music bands, and was well accustomed to posing for the crowds! So here she is, photographed by yours truly – none other than professional model Miss Mary M’Lovely.
Isn’t she just gorgeous! Star of stage, screen, studio and the catwalk – erm, maybe not the CATwalk!

The old bandstand in Belfast’s Corn Market has been given a facelift!
At weddings I shoot a generally natural style, with some posed elements along the way, but that’s not to say that we can’t plan the day and the photography to make the most of all opportunities. As part of the planning we’ll talk about the schedule for the day, but we can also talk about locations, styles and fun things to do.
This happy chappie is young Sebastian, who came with his mummy and daddy to visit the studio at Dundonald to begin his ‘Baby’s First Year’ sessions. He smiled all the way through!
Antrim is the county town of its eponymous county. It’s Antrim, Antrim! So good they named it twice! 22 miles from Belfast, Antrim lies along the banks of the ‘Six Mile Water’ and on the shores of Lough Neagh, the largest freshwater lake in the British Isles.
The town’s history goes right back to just 30 years after the dewath of St Patrick, when, in 495, a Gaelic – speaking settlement of monks grew around the presnt site of the Antrim Round Tower. Continue reading Antrim, Antrim…
