Photo-Essay ‘Scrabo’

On Saturday 1st October, I went for a walk up to Scrabo Tower, on the outskirts of Newtownards.  This landmark has towered over much of my life, living and working around the Ards area.  The tower was built in 1857, 540 ft above sea-level, as a memorial to the 3rd Marquess of Londonderry, Viscount castlereagh, Charles Stewart.    The tower is situated in a country park, close to Scrabo Golf Club, and is approached by car only as far as the golf club entrance, then by foot up a steep path to the summit.  Thankfully, there are resting places on the ascent!

Being October, the road up to tower ran beside fields that had just been baled, – which provided my image of the day, and set the scene for my exploration of the towers surroundings.

Doggy Visitors

Saturday 9th July – and we had two great wee doggy friends in the studio for the Pet Portrait Awards on behalf of Dogs Trust, Bailey the Scottie and Holly the Lhasa Apso.

Bailey came first!  She’s just two, and full of life and – jet black!  So getting the Nikon Df camera to focus on her was a bit of a challenge!  But we managed, and with some prompting from her humans, and a few special treats she was a real star.

Here she is…

Next came Holly.  Holly is an eleven year old Maltese Cross, with sore knees – but she’s so happy and friendly!  And what a poser!

Relaxed Baby Photography?

I’d just posted a message on a Facebook group, saying how thankful I am that I am a self-employed photographer, instead of being confined to a desk in an office all day, with targets and pressure.  I’d said that I enjoyed the more relaxed lifestyle, and was looking forward to my baby shoots in the studio later that day.  One or two commented on the concept of a ‘relaxed baby session’ and I assured them that I had it all worked out. THEN this happened…
