If the aperture controls the amount of light that falls on the camera sensor/film, the shutter determines how long that light falls on the film/sensor. Choosing the correct shutter speed is important because:-
* It can freeze a moving subject.
* It can blur moving subjects.
* It can help reduce camera shake.
So, how can we use the shutter speed to best advantage?
On a wet Sunday afternoon, I spent an hour or so wandering about Gracehill. I’d driven through it many times, but never explored it on foot. The village is situated around two and a half miles from Ballymena, and was built in 1765 by Moravian Settlers.
A wee day off on Easter Tuesday and Janette and I took a wee trip down to Banbridge and a walk along the ‘Boulevard’ – the new name for the outlet centre. After all it was a wet day, with thunder storms and hailstones, and the Boulevard is covered, at least in part, and that meant there were quite a few people about to add human interest. Needless to say I brought the Fujifil X-T2 camera, and made a couple of exposures as we walked around.
Today Michelle and Cianan came to accept their prize, – it’s a beautiful 20×16 inch framed print that would grace anyone’s home and will be a memory to treasure forever. Cianan won the local 1st Prize in the 2017 ‘Child Portrait Awards’ – in support of the Lullaby Trust.
You could win the 2018 CPA (or FPA, if you’ve two or more people to enter) and we’re still supporting this amazing charity. And the UK prize is £1000! Just a £10 donation to our charity fund is all that’s needed to enter.
This week the whole of the British Isles have been under a cloud of snow, with temperatures plunging into minus figures, snow drifts closing roads and causing traffic chaos, as The Beast from the East brings Siberean temperatures across Europe. Just as the Beast took hold, ‘Storm Emma’ sent gale force winds to chill us even further.
The result was that most of our studio appointments were cancelled or postponed. One determined client was Baby John, who (along with his parents) battled through the snow rather than miss his appointment for the last session in his Baby’s First Year package. So here he is, in seasonal conditions…
Saturday 24th February was a day of babies and toddlers at Dundonald. First we had the lovely baby Nisha, in for the last visit on her ‘Baby’s First Year’ package. She’s ONE!
Then later in the day, along came cousins John and Teddy, great buddies at the best of times, here they are demonstrating their friendship for the camera!
Our 2017 Mini-Models Competition closed on 8th December, ane we are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the winners. There’ll be three great local prizes, and the 1st Prize-winner locally will go into the national competition to stand a chance of winning £1000!
Casper the friendly dog made his way up to Dundonald, (battling through the wrong kind of snow) to reach our studio for his photoshoot. At 12 years old, there’s hardly a grey hair on his head (unlike your ancient photographer!). He took the whole session completely in his stride! Here he is in one of our popular doggy props…
Fancy giving it a go? If you’ve got a dog who just tugs on your heartstrings every time you see those big eyes pleading with you, get him booked in for a professional studio visit, – you’ll not regret it!
