Family is important. It’s good to make memories and record family relationships on a regular basis, and to capture images that will be good enough to frame and hang in the family home. Traditionally, this is the work of the professional photographer, who has the proper training, equipment and experience to produce fantastic images.
So, we always welcome families to the studio at Dundonald – like these three happy sisters…
We have our VERY FIRST ENTRY for the brand new National Child Portrait Awards in support of The Lullaby Trust.
This is the very lovely baby Olivia.

On Saturday 1st October, I went for a walk up to Scrabo Tower, on the outskirts of Newtownards. This landmark has towered over much of my life, living and working around the Ards area. The tower was built in 1857, 540 ft above sea-level, as a memorial to the 3rd Marquess of Londonderry, Viscount castlereagh, Charles Stewart. The tower is situated in a country park, close to Scrabo Golf Club, and is approached by car only as far as the golf club entrance, then by foot up a steep path to the summit. Thankfully, there are resting places on the ascent!
Being October, the road up to tower ran beside fields that had just been baled, – which provided my image of the day, and set the scene for my exploration of the towers surroundings.

I’m a recent convert to Adobe Lightroom. When digital photography became a serious possibility in the professional photography world, I quickly realised that I was going to need Photoshop skills, but having learned the basics of Photoshop, I was disinclined to have to learn even more new skills. The phrase, ‘Old dogs, new tricks’ comes quickly to mind. So despite all the seminars and articles extolling the virtues of Lightroom’s Cataloging and Developing capabilities, I flatly refused to have anything to do with it. Ok. I’m a Luddite!
